Stay Hydrated!

Now that the winter is almost over and the warmth of spring and the heat of summer
loom over us, we feel, at Sufrati.com that it is our social duty to inform you to
STAY HYDRATED!

Why Drink Water and Plenty of Fluids

Fun Facts:
     · 75% of the body is made up of water
     · 80% of the brain is made up of water
     · 75% of the muscles are made up of water
     · 92% of the blood is made up of water
     · There is a 10% decrease in the mental activity when one feels thirsty
     · Drinking more water helps reduce obesity

Ensuring proper hydration is important because of many reasons. Firstly, water
maintains the temperature of the body, so people with less water content end up
with a higher body temperature which is harmful as it reduces attention due to
overheating. Also, dehydration may result in the shutting down of major organs due
to extreme temperatures - though for this to happen, one would literally have to go
without drinking for days (please don’t try it.)

Water also helps to keep the joints lubricated. So people suffering from lack of
water feel their arms and legs going stiff, and are painful to move since it seems
like bone is scraping against bone. People who routinely exercise should be even
more careful and drink plenty of water, at least 8oz every twenty minutes to ensure
that the muscles and the cardiovascular system (heart and lungs) have adequate
oxygen supply. Otherwise the person feels strained and the probability of heat
injury is greatly increased.

Finally, water also delivers nutrients to the body. Without these nutrients the person
begins to lose energy and the overall health declines. The person always feels tired
and out of breadth. As a result it is very important that the person stop all physical
exercise or activity and begin to drink plenty of water to replenish the body.

Symptoms of Dehydration
In hot countries like Saudi Arabia it is important to remain alert to the signs of heat
illness. Nausea, headaches, dizziness, and a stoppage of perspiration are all
indications of heat injury.

How Isotonic Drinks Help
In truth an isotonic drink is essentially just water and glucose (sugar) with some
added vitamins and minerals. When a person exercises, many of the minerals
contained in the body are either burnt up or excreted through perspiration.
Isotonic drinks help replenish lost minerals as well as topping up energy levels. The
glucose provides one with an energy boost and any vitamins or minerals are
obviously always welcome.
